Lusubilo Malakbungu from Tanzania spent his #UWSummer taking classes and experiencing Wisconsin culture as a Mandela Washington Fellow.⠀ ⠀ The Mandela Washington Fellowship sponsored by the U.S. @statedept brings around 700 young African leaders to the United States each year to complete a six-week professional and academic institute at higher education institutions. #UWMadison hosted 25 Fellows from 18 countries this summer from June 19 to July 28.⠀ ⠀ Lusubilo works as a laboratory adviser at the Management and Development for Health in Tanzania, at a project that aims at controlling the HIV epidemic and integrating quality health services in the areas of family planning, malaria care, and tuberculosis.⠀ ⠀ “Despite my background in health care, this fellowship taught me to fit in multi-sectoral society with the purpose of achieving common goods. I felt welcomed by staff at UW–Madison and fellow from various countries. I discovered my strengths and looking forward to utilize them at my organization when back home."⠀ ⠀ We’ll be sharing #UWSummer stories on Instagram from July 29 to Aug. 9. You can follow along and share your own story by tagging #UWSummer in your Instagram post.⠀ ⠀ #MandelaFellows #YALI2019 @UW_IIP
