Senior Anna Barry spent her #UWSummer in Washington D.C. as a legislative intern for Sen. Tammy Baldwin as part of the Wisconsin in Washington program. “I was assigned to the policy areas of LGBTQ+ and banking issues, where I learned so much about the legislative process and serving Wisconsin constituents. This summer term experience has meant the world to me and has prepared me for my future career in public policy,” says Anna. Anna, a political science major, was the first president of the newly formed UW-Madison Political Science Student Association, the Big Ten Voting Challenge Intern and a house fellow. She’s also in the accelerated Master of Public Affairs program at the LaFollette School of Public Affairs. The Wisconsin in Washington Program offers students a chance to intern at an organization in Washington, D.C., while completing course work designed to enhance the experience, including lectures, network building and visits to major institutions. The program is offered by the Study Abroad program, the International Division and the Political Science Department. We’ll be sharing #UWSummer stories on Instagram all week.
