Another #UWSummer Sweet Spot: In the the shadow of Camp Randall Stadium, the 6.5 acre-Camp Randall Memorial Park is a quiet green space that's a delightful place to relax or toss a Frisbee. But it has a historic past: From 1858-1885, it hosted the Wisconsin State Fair, and from 1861-1865, it was a training ground for Union Army troops in the Civil War . For several months in 1862 it was the detention center for more than 1,200 Confederate prisoners of war.
